Behold Now Is The Accepted Time

A born pastor whose service proved a great blessing towards the end of the nineteenth century, wrote an earnest article, on 2 Corinthians 6:2 on which I will give an extract here. Where the writer speaks of “foolish virgins”, he is referring to the parable of the ten virgins that the Lord Jesus once told His disciples (Matthew 25: 1-3). If you are unacquainted with the parable I would advise you read it in the Bible. This is what the pastor wrote:

When the hammer of eternity is raised for the last time and strikes the bell to give a dull ring and today becomes yesterday, then it’s too late. Today might take another ten or twelve years for you or me, but it might be only a few weeks. Today! Today!

“Time is short and what one minute has neglected to do can never be brought back in a thousand eternities. The foolish virgins arrived only five minutes too late but it was too late forever. They were still with the shopkeepers…; but when they returned the door was shut and locked. They knocked, pleaded, wept and shouted. But all they heard from behind the door was, “I don’t know you” … Once your today has flowed into the ocean of eternity – just one drop in which the sun shone,…. Is it then all over?  No, but your opportunity has passed! In eternity there is no further chance of conversion…”

Now is the proper and only time, today is the day to put things right with God and come to Him. The example of the foolish virgins shows just how terrible the consequences will be for eternity, if we fail to take the necessary precautions in time. Behold now is the accepted time!
